Arab gum resin. This is the resin which is produced by two species of acacia tree (Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal). It is used in the food industry as a stabliser and fixative and as a vegetarian alternative to gelatin. Gum arabic may be used as an ingredient in pastilles for sore throats and coughs. It is has also been used in traditional herbal medicine to treat inflamed tissues.
