The large outcrop of rock on the horizon (upper right) is the famous tourist attraction called Uluru by the Australian Aborigines, and Ayers Rock by the Australian settlers. Uluru, near the centre of Australia, is a steep-sided hill of sandstone rock, rising out of the surrounding plain and formed by the erosion of the material around it. Uluru is nearly 350 metres high and has a base circumference of over 9 kilometres. It is sacred to the Anangu aboriginal people.
