Uluru, near the centre of Australia, is a steep-sided hill of sandstone rock, rising out of the surrounding plain and formed by the erosion of the material around it. Uluru is nearly 350 metres high and has a base circumference of over 9 kilometres. It is sacred to the Anangu aboriginal people.
