Papyrus paper production. Image 4 of 5. Strips of pith from the papyrus (Cyperus papyrus) after pressing. The strips have been pounded and soaked to make them more pliable, cut to the desired length, and lain on a cotton sheet with two layers perpendicular to one another. The strips have then been pressed to remove excess moisture. A number of these sheets are pressed together to form one sheet of papyrus paper. Photographed in Egypt. For a sequence showing production of papyrus paper see T926/107 to T926/111.
