Papyrus paper. Image 5 of 5. This paper is made from the pith of the papyrus (Cyperus papyrus). The pith is removed from the stalks, cut into strips, and pounded and soaked to make them more pliable. They are then cut to the desired length and lain on a cotton sheet with two layers perpendicular to one another. Another cotton sheet is placed on top and the strips are pressed to remove excess moisture. A number of these sheets are pressed together to form one sheet of papyrus paper.
