These ultra-thin polymer semi-conductors are light emitting diodes (LEDs) in which the emissive electroluminescent layer is a film of organic compound that emits light in response to an electric current. They have potential applications in displays on car dashboards, radios, mobile phones and medical equipment. They are thinner, lighter and brighter than traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs). They also have a wider viewing angle and lower power consumption.
