Tea sorters in China, 19th-century artwork. The leaves of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) are brewed in boiling water to produce the beverage. It is native to eastern and southern Asia. Here, the leaves are being sorted after being harvested. This process sorts and grades the leaves by size and type to ensure consistent quality of product. This wood engraving dates from circa 1888.
