Based in the historic port of Maldon in Essex. NIAGARA, Official No. 108373. 79 tons Built in 1898 of steel by Forrest of Wivenhoe. 86. 7 ft long by 20. 6 ft. beam. Auxiliary motor fitted in 1924 and converted to motor barge in 1935. Owned by Peter Sands and based at Hoo, she has recently been restored and re-rigged and is now very active in the barge matches. She is identified by her white hull, grey leeboards, and "Whitton Marine" written in her topsail. 2013 Barge Championship winner. EDITH MAY, Official No. 116180. 64 ton, built of wood at Harwich in 1906 by Cann. Owned by W. T. Sagrey, Barrett, and then G. F. Sully she traded until 1961 as motorbarge. Rerigged by Vernon Harvey and had many successful races. Moved to Liverpool Docks, she returned to St. Katharines 1990, owned by Roger Angus. She was acquired in October 1999, by Geoff Gransden, and has been fully restored at Lower Halstow Dock in Kent.
