Photograph taken by the Hungarian-British Archaeologist Aurel Stein at the entrance to the Library Cave at Dunhuang, China. Stein's original image of this scene was double exposed and he therefore recreated it by drawing the manuscripts onto the negative of an image showing the cave empty. The caves, which contained thousands of manuscripts, were discovered in 1907.
