Mount Erebus ascent expedition. British explorers camped in tents at Depot B during the expedition to climb Mount Erebus in December 1912 during the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). Also known as the Terra Nova Expedition and led by Robert Falcon Scott, a shore party of 33 spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. Scott and four others had died in March 1912 on their return from the South Pole. While waiting for the return of the Terra Nova, other expeditions included this ascent of the active volcano Mount Erebus from 4-12 December 1912. Photographed by one of the expedition geologists Frank Debenham.
