VENUS: FALSE-COLOR IMAGE. /nDigital photograph of the planet Venus taken by an Ultraviolet Spectrometer on the Pioneer Venus Orbiter spacecraft, 1978. The planet is seen in light of atomic oxygen in the planet's upper atmosphere. The lines are a result of periodic measurement of light emitted by atomic hydrogen while the image was being captured.
