The names include the Cherokee ('Cherrikies') and the Nasaw (centre). At left is Charleston, South Carolina (then called Charles Town), with the colony of Virginia at lower right. This map was drawn on deerskin by a tribal leader of the Catawba people. As stated in the label at lower centre, it was presented to the Governor of the Province of South Carolina, Francis Nicholson (1655-1728). Nicholson was governor here from 1721 to 1725. The dedication is to the Prince of Wales, the future King George I.
