TALISMANS - CHARMS - MICHAEL - MAGIC SQUARES A protective charm, including a magic square, and various sigils related to the Sun. The charm, which is late 18th century, was found in a barn at West Bradford, near Clithero, Lancashire, in 1825. For details, see Proceedings of the Historical Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, 1852. The charm is written in an elementary code which consists mainly of substitute Greek letters for consonants and dashes for vowels. The first three lines (which intermix Greek with Latin) make no sense, but from the beginning of line four, reference is made to St. Matthew, 17:20, which is quoted extensively, followed by the Pater Noster. At top left is the Magic Square for the Sun. In top centre, the sigils for Sun and Leo, and next [top] the sigil of the Intelligency of the Sun and [below] the sigil for the daemon of the Sun. Below (left) is the character for Michael, the Archangel of the Sun. Top right is the Seal of the Sun.
