Picture by Roger Bamber: 14 August 2005: Artist Simon Pascoe of Red Earth adjusts the greenwood, wattle and daub installation "Vanishing Point" on the edge of the crumbling chalk cliffs of Birling Gap, Seven Sisters, East Sussex. The sculpture which was created in partnership with the National Trust and funded by the Arts Council has been controversial. It has offended some local people and walkers for its intrusion into a famous beauty spot. But its creators and many supporters say the temporary sculpture marks the continual erosion of the landscape and enhances awareness of the changing geography of Britain.
