RIOT BREAKS OUT DURING FRANCE v URUGUAY BASKETBALL A riot broke out during the basketball game between Uruguay and France , in which referee Vincent Farrell , of Newark , New Jersey , was knocked down and had to be carried off . Police and Olympic officials poured on to the court to subdue the players . The crowd booed the Uruguayans , who livid with rage , shouted wildly . The fight began over disputed fouls . 28th July 1952
