Dagenham Girl Pipers welcomed their new 'Chieftain'. Pipe Maj George Greenfield of the Royal Scots, recognised as one of Scotland's greatest experts on the bagpipes and Highland Dances, was met at Heathway station (District Railway) by the band of the Dagenham Girl Pipers in full uniform when he arrived at Dagenham, Essex, to become Pipe Maj of the Girl Pipers. George Greenfield enlisted in the Royal Scot as a boy piper and has now completed his 21 years service. As 'Chieftain' of the Dagenham Girl Pipers he will be responsible for the piping and dancing instruction of over 50 girls.
