With their belongings around them Mr and Mrs Clark and their son Alan, aged 2 year, amid their furniture on the pavement, where they camped for 2 nights outside their home on Averton Road, East Finshley. Mr Bernard Clark, 29, a ? a week painter and his family were evicted by the Finchley Council from their home under a compulsory purchase order and now the family camp on the pavement. The council have offered to put his wife and son into a hostel but they refused, the council offered to re-house them with Mrs Clark's parents in a three bedroomed flat, they were willing to go but Mr Clark's mother-in-law had been moved to a one bedroomed flat and didn't want to leave. 11th October 1957
