Rhodesian Prime Minister, Mr Ian Smith, watched by members of his Cabinet, signs the Proclomation of Rhodesian Independence in Salisbury today. Later Mr Smith made a nationwide broadcast in which he declared that Rhodesia was declaring itself independent. The Proclomation said the Rhodesian people who have demonstrated their loyalty to Britain through two world wars, "now see all that they have cherished about to be shattered on the rocks of expediency" 11th November 1965
