Dr Joseph Mengele (Angel of Death), fugitive ex-Nazi, who was reported to have been captured by police at a jungle settlement in San Martin Province, 600 miles from here. Hans Kugler, chief prosecutor at the Auschwitz War Crimes trial in Frankfurt where 22 lesser officials of the extermination camp are on trial, said that Mengele had been the prosecution's number one most wanted man. Mengele, a physician, presided over the massive Gestapo Medical Experiments on women and children at the Nazi Death Camp. He is also accused of helping make the Auschwitz mass gassings "scientifically perfect". Informed sources said that Mengele was operating a prosperous agricultural business in the settlement of Tambo at the time of his arrest. - 6th June 1964
