The Production line at the Morris Cowley factory in Oxford, 1946. The target was 2,500 cars a week. New Year's Day saw Britain's Motor Industry embark on a new production programme to build half a million private and commercial cars in 1946. If this target is reached, there will be a substantial drop in prices. By April, Austins expect to be turning out 2,000 cars per week, greatly exceeding their pre-war production figures by June 1st. The Nuffield companies hope to be producing 2,500 cars and 400 commercial vehicles a week by the spring.
