The Empress of Canada (formerly the Duchess of Richmond) left Liverpool yesterday on her first post-war voyage to Canada. Calling at Qu嶵ec and Montr嶧l, she is the first ship to restore passenger liner service with the great Dominion. After a fine w ar record, which included taking part in the Mediterranean landings, this 20,000 t vessel has been entirely free converted. The passenger accommodation has been rebuilt to provide larger cabins, so this means that the ship will carry much fewer people and that she now has only two classes - first and tourist. Picture shows: A close-up of the master of the "Empress of Canada" - Captain E.A. Shergold - as he watches the weather before taking his ship out from Liverpool on her first post war crossing to Canada. 17 July 1947
