A public enquiry into the Doncaster train disaster which 18 people were killed and 70 injured last Saturday was opened at Liverpool Street station by Sir Allan Mount, Chief inspecting officer of railways, Ministry of Transport. The accident occurred when the 1:25 PM King's Cross to Leeds express ran into the back of a 1:10 PM King's Cross Leeds express at Balby junction, near Doncaster station. Both trains were crowded with holidaymakers.
