White millionaire , Mr L. Ron Hubbard - shown saying goodbye to his staff - has been told by the Rhodesian Government to leave this country . Mr Hubbard refused to comment on the Government's decision . Mr Hubbard arrived in Rhodesia early 1966 , in May , with two local businessmen , he bought the Bumi Hills hotel on Lake Kariba , as well as other various investments and company purchases . Explaining the scientology movement recently , Mr Hubbard said he had started a foundation in 1950 , " to discover the true nature of Man , and make the world a better place ". He called scientology the " philosophy of knowledge " and said it would be used in Rhodesia to improve the ability of executives in his new companies and to better their administrative know how , Salisbury , Zimbabwe . 17 July 1966
