Dasaratha tells the queens about the incident in his youth when he accidentally killed a sage's son while hunting. On the left; Dasaratha mistakenly aims his bow through trees at the youth; who is filling his water-pitcher on the other side of the river Sarayu. As the youth falls dying he tells the prince about his aged and blind parents. Dasaratha brings them the pitcher of water and tells them what has happened. Grief-stricken; they are led by him to the body of their son and they caress it; while Dasaratha stands beside them. They then curse him that he too would similarly lose his son.
