The Mexican Gray Wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) is the rarest and most genetically distinct subspecies of the North American Gray Wolf. It is one of the smallest subspecies, reaching an overall length of no greater than 4.5 feet and a maximum height of about 32 inches. The Mexican Gray Wolf is found in the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts from Central Mexico to Western Texas, Southern New Mexico, and Central Arizona.
