The White Sturgeon, Acipenser transmontanus, ranges through the Eastern North Pacific. It has also been translocated to the Colorado River. There is a substantial fishery surrounding the species, including harvest and consumption of its eggs, caviar. It is a threatened species and is listed as CITES appendix II. Adults spend most of their time in the ocean but swim up rivers and inland to breed (they are anadromous). Some of the migrations involve considerable distances. They have been recorded as living in excess of 100 years.
