Chaparral regrowth after brush fire. The first plants to emerge after the fire are the fire followers and fire obligates. Here can be seen Largeflowered Phacelia and a white native morning glory. In all but the hottest fires the chaparral shrubs will sprout from the root crown and gradually return to their prior dominance. Photographed in the first spring after a brush fire in Santa Barbara County, California.
