The Library of Celsus at Ephesus, which was built in 135 AD. It stored 12,000 scrolls, and was a monumental tomb for Celsus. In a true restoration, the front facade was rebuilt, and serves as a prime example of Roman public architecture. Ephesus was first a Greek, then the second largest Roman Empire city. Today's archaeological site lies 3 km southwest of Selcuk, on the west coast of Anatolia, in present-day Izmir Province, Turkey. The ruins of Ephesus are a favorite tourist attraction, with easy access from Kusadasi.
