Artwork of the Gate of Ishtar, from Babylon, Iraq. Ishtar Gate is believed to have been constructed in 575 BC by King Nebuchadnezzar II. It was dedicated to the goddess Ishtar the Assyrian and Babylonian goddess of fertility, war, love, and sex. She is the counterpart to the Sumerian Inanna and to the cognate north-west Semitic goddess Astarte.
