Northern Island Tree Mallow (Lavatera assurgentiflora ss. assurgentiflora) is a shrub 1 to 3 meters high with soft wood and irregularly toothed leaf margins (5 to 7 lobes per leaf). The flowers range from white to purple with purple veins through the petals. It grows along roadsides, chaparral, and disturbed areas of vegetation. It blooms from February through October and occurs on all four Northern Channel islands, although this subspecies is endemic only to Anacapa and San Miguel.
