Accurate reconstruction of a Proconsul heseloni skull that was discovered by Mary Leakey in 1948 in Kenya. This particular fossil specimen was originally classified as Proconsul africanus but was reclassified as P. heseloni in 1993. Proconsul is an extinct genus of primates that existed from 23 to 5 million years ago during the Miocene epoch. The reconstruction is based on original fossil casts, photographs and/or scientific measurements and is formed out of polyurethane resin which has a similar look and feel to real fossilized bone.
