Looking toward the south, this long-exposure image has captured the rotating sky around the south celestial pole. On the ground the antennas of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) are captured. Located on the Chajnantor plateau in Chile at altitude of 5000 meters, ALMA is known as the most complex ground-based astronomical project of this decade. It will eventually consist of 66 radio telescopes operating together as a single giant telescope.
