Engraving of the Lantern at Beachy Head lighthouse, Sussex, January 1884. The lighthouse was built between 1828 and 1831 on Belle Tout Cliff and equipped with a 'catoptric' lantern, which ran on colza oil. Here the lighthouse keeper can be seen cleaning some of the lantern reflectors.
