Philip (Phil) Piratin (1907-1995), member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, and MP for Mile End, East London (1945-1950). He opposed the anti-semitism of Mosley's British Union of Fascists, and was a defender of tenants' rights. His parliamentary seat was abolished when boundary changes were made, and he was defeated when standing for the new Stepney constituency in 1950. Seen here (left), with William Gallacher (1881-1965), Communist MP for East Fife, arriving on the first day of the new parliament in 1945.
