Croatia - Zadar (Zara) - The Harbour with Italian passenger Seaplane 'Airios', which ran a daily service over the 92 mile route between Ancona, Italy and Zadar. The military seaplane base Ancona (Idroscali Militare Ancona) was an airfield in Ancona, 210 kilometers north-northeast of Rome. The airfield was built in the summer of 1917 for the defense of Ancona. Upon the end of hostilities, the Ancona seaplanes formed the first connection to the liberated lands of Istria and Dalmatia, also operating passenger and postal connection to Zara (Zadar) as shown here. By 1924 the airfield was replaced by the new Idroscalo Ancona across the harbour on the south pier.
