This high pressure fire protection sprinkler system above Ancient Olympia was installed at the Unesco World Heritage site for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Then in 2007 fires raged over many parts of Greece including around Olympia, many of them suspected to be arson. Fortunately the combination of the sprinklers and action by the Fire departments saved the ancient site from destruction. The sprinklers are sited in close proximity to enable maximum coverage and are able to rotate 360 degrees. Olympia is an ancient Greek religious site dating back 10 centuries before Christ. It is the home of the ancient Olympics, first held in 8th Century BC and was the location of a giant ivory and gold Statue of Zeus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Olympics continued until they were banned by Roman Emperor Theodosius I in 394 AD, but it is still the place where the Olympic flame is lit.
