Albert Heim (1849-1937), Swiss geologist, in his study. Heim is best known for his three-volume work 'Geologie der Schweiz' (1919-1922). Part of this work is on the table in the foreground. Heim worked as professor of geology in the polytechnic school at Zurich, and in 1875 became professor of geology at the university. He was director of the Geological Survey of Switzerland from 1882. He was awarded the 1904 Wollaston Medal by the Geological Society of London.
