Romeo robot demonstrates its ability to locate and sensitively grasp objects. Romeo is an autonomous programmable humanoid robot built by French company Aldebaran Robotics (now SoftBank Robotics). The aim of the Romeo project, launched in 2009, is to research and test the potential of robot companions specialised in supporting the elderly or people with disabilities. Composed of about 5000 parts, Romeo measures 1.4 metres and weighs 40 kilograms. It is equipped with four computers to manage its vision, hearing, movements and artificial intelligence. It is capable of recognising faces, speaking, walking, climbing stairs, grasping objects, and even using its hands for sign language. Its primary role will be to help with everyday tasks.
