Machairodus kabir. Computer illustration and photo-reconstruction of the big sabre-toothed cat Machairodus kabir. Machairodus was a genus of large machairodontine sabre-tooth cats that lived in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America during the Miocene through Pleistocene living from 11.6 million years ago - 126.000 years ago, existing for approximately 11.5 million years. Palaeontologists have discovered the remains of a large sabre-toothed cat in the Taurus-Menella in Africa, known as Machairodus kabir. The weight of this animal is estimated at 350 kg. The height at the withers was probably about 125 cm, which is comparable with the largest Mosbach lion (Panthera leo fossilis) and the American Lion (Panthera (Leo) Atrox).
