Puijila darwini. Computer illustration and photo-reconstruction of the Puijila darwini. Puijila darwini is an extinct species of seal which lived during the Miocene epoch about 21 to 24 million years ago. With four legs and a long tail, it must have resembled a large otter but it was, in fact, a walking seal. Puijila is not the ancestor of seals. It is a transitional fossil.
