Portrait of an African, oil on canvas circa 1760painted by Allan Ramsay (17131784). Believed to be a portrait of Charles Ignatius Sancho (c. 1729 1780) British composer, actor, and writer. He became a symbol of the humanity of Africans and immorality of the slave trade.
