These magnificent statues are 65 feet high, but only one of them is fully exposed to view, much of the temple being now buried in desert sand. It was excavated to a depth of 200 feet, and the interior is richly sculptured. It was unknown to Europeans forty years ago, and was first entered by Belzoni."
