In 1832 proposed that unions should unite and in 1834 the Grand National Consolidated Trade Union was formed. Government reacted by arresting six agricultural workers from Tolpuddle in Dorset for forming a union, and sentencing them to seven years transportation. Owen lead a march from Copenhagen Fields, Islington on 21st April 1834 carrying a petition which was refused and in August the union collapsed. ).
