This statuette was probably made for a friend or admirer of the Duke of Cumberland in the period following his victory at the Battle of Culloden (1746). The sculptor, Henry Cheere, also designed a full size version of the statue, which was erected in Cavendish Square, London, in 1770. It was melted down in 1868.); by National Army Museum .
