5928938 Victoria Cross, recipient unknown, Crimean War, c.1854 (Victoria Cross) by British School, (19th century); National Army Museum, London; (add.info.: Victoria Cross, recipient unknown, Crimean War, 1854 (c). This Victoria Cross was recovered from the foreshore of the River Thames by Mr Tobias Neto. Analysis of its composition indicates that it is a genuine VC from the Crimean War (1854-1856). The date of the medal relates it to the Battle of Inkerman. Research by Mr Neto and various museums has indicated that there are only two possible individuals to whom this medal could have been awarded, John Byrne of the 68th Durham Light Infantry or John McDermond of the 47th Lancashire Regiment. It is not known why this award was consigned to the Thames.); by National Army Museum .
