Randolph Turpin retained his British Empire light-heavyweight championship and won the British title, by knocking out Alex Buxton after two minutes and fourteen seconds of the second round at Harringay last night (26-4-55). A typical Turpin thunderbolt rally in which he sank his left fist deep into Buxton's short ribs followed by a finisher to the jaw ended the fight. Buxton heaved and tugged at himself to get up on the points of his feet during the count to continue the fight but while he was still hauling himself erect (see picture) referee Ben Green shouted "Ten" - and the fight was over. April 27, 1955.
