Italy; Tuscany; city of Montepulciano; Piazza Grande: Palazzo (Palace) Nobili-Tarugi (first decades of 16th century); and to the left the Pozzo dei Grifi e Leoni (Fountain of the Griffins and Lions) of 1520; both realized by Antonio da Sangallo The Elder (Antonio da Sangallo Il Vecchio; 1453 - 1534). Famous Renaissance architect Antonio da Sangallo The Elder left several masterpieces during his time in Montepulciano; which started with planning (start: 1516) and building (start: 1518) of the chiesa di San Biagio; finished around 1545. As well he built palaces as Palazzo Nobili-Turigi and a further church; here. The fountain of griffins and lions holds as well the coat of arms of the Medici; presenting six round discs or coins (bezants); called "palle" (balls) by the Florentines. The coat of arms motto of the Medici was "Festina lente". Griffins and lions show their power over Montepulciano; and Tuscany.
