Once trapped each bacterium can be studied individually. This method could greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to determine which antibiotic to use against an infection. Instead of having to grow colonies of bacteria and test each colony against a drug, each bacterium on the slide could be tested against a different drug and observed for adverse effects under a microscope.
