Daubigny; as one of the most important painter of landscapes of the 19th century; is one of the vital precursors of modernism. With his open-air painting; which mirrors mood and atmosphere in a unique way; he anticipated the artistic solutions of the impressionists. His example finds expression especially in the works of Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro; whose art was supported by him as a member of the jury of the Salon.
