Franz von Stuck and Franz von Lenbach count among the most significant artists in Munich around 1900. Both lived in splendid villas; which they designed themselves and still stand today. Here Franz von Stuck gives an example of his comprehensive talent; which goes far beyond painting and drawing. Since 1936 a monumental version of his "Amazon" has been standing in front of the portico of his villa.

Although Stuck did not neglect her femininity when rendering the female warrior; it is the powerful and athletic physical expression of the figure which plays a central role. The horsewoman who is about to throw her lance; transmits her dynamics to the horse which seems to follow her instructions.
