Handkerchief of batist with an edge bobbin lace with cartouches and sloping tendrils with oval leaves on either side; Handkerchief of batist finished with a strip of Brussels bobbin lace. Square model with rounded corners along which the side strip is wrinkled. The pattern consists of more or less pointed oval cartouches and tendrils with oval leaves on either side. Two tendrils emerge from one cartouche; slanting to the left and to the right; where they bend at the top of the strip and end up in a flower. The following cartouche is formed by a branch that bends over a flower with a large bow; which lies along the underside of the strip. The motifs are made in linen with openwork edges; very few and fine cut-outs and partly with contour deeds and cloaked relief contours. The motifs are connected by a grid ground: drochelgrond. Various grounds were used as ornamental grounds; including gridwork decorated with shaping layers. The scallop edge along the underside of the strip comes from the pattern and is finished with picots. The edging strip is composed of two pieces. The batist is not original.; anonymous; Brussels; c. 1775 - c. 1799; linen (material); Brussels bobbin lace; l 39 cm x w 39 cm w 6 cm x; 36 cm
